MODALITIES

There are many different types of massage in the world, and some are more well-known than others. I currently offer Swedish massage, deep massage, sports massage, structural bodywork, chair massage, pregnancy massage, and shiatsu.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the most widely used system of massage therapy in North America. This style of massage uses long, gliding strokes, stretching and joint mobilizations to promote circulation and a deeper sense of relaxation. Swedish massage has numerous health benefits, which can include:

* Reduced stress and anxiety
* Reduced pain caused by muscle tension and fatigue
* Increased flexibility and range of motion
* Decreased blood pressure and heart rate
* Improved circulation of the lymphatic system
* Greater sense of well-being; reduced feelings of depression

Deep Massage

As we move through the world, we are often unaware of the physical and emotional habits that shape the way we hold our bodies. For instance, those of us who spend several hours a day at a computer often develop slumped shoulders, a forward-tilt in the head and neck, and lower back strain. These types of postural imbalances, and the tension created in the supporting muscles and connective tissue, often cause pain in these areas.

Deep massage is a unique soft tissue therapy which works consciously and simultaneously to enhance energy flow as well as the body's structural integrity. Deep massage helps to decompress tight, shortened muscles, restore length to contracted tissues and bring more awareness to the body as a whole system.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is designed for athletes and others engaged in intense physical activity.

Sports massage helps to enhance performance and maintain health, and is commonly used for conditioning, recovery, rehabilitation and remediation of recurring conditions. This type of massage can be tailored to the athlete's needs at any particular stage, whether it's before or after an event, or between competitions and tournaments.

Applied skillfully, sports massage can increase positive-performance factors such as healthy muscle and connective tissues, normal range of motion, pain-free movement and mental calmness and clarity. It can also decrease the potential for tearing a tight muscle. If an injury does occur, massage can facilitate soft-tissue healing by reducing edema (pressure of increased fluid), increasing circulation and the delivery of nutrients to the injury site and promoting the creation of strong and mobile scar tissue.

Structural Bodywork

Structural bodywork focuses on de-stressing the body through circulatory work, friction, and myofascial release. Working together with the client, the therapist designs the session, or a series of sessions, to address the individual's personal needs and health objectives. The goal in structural bodywork is to creatively interweave techniques that enable the greatest possible alignment and balance for the individual.

Chair Massage

This style of bodywork is performed in a specially designed chair while client is seated and fully clothed. Japanese Acupressure techniques are applied to the upper-body: massaging the neck, back, shoulders, arms, and hands. This well-choreographed style of bodywork allows the client to thoroughly relax.

Hot Stone Massage (Available Soon!)

Take your myofascial massage to the next level. The Signature Stone Massage is a slow combination massage with a variety of healing stones used to lull your body into its deepest state of relaxation. The heated stones are non-toxic and gently stimulate blood circulation.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is particularly beneficial for expectant mothers as it not only promotes physical well being, but also helps prepare women psychologically and spiritually for the process of labor and birth.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is characterized by its great simplicity. It uses hand pressure and manipulative techniques to adjust the body's physical structure and natural inner energies to help prevent illness and maintain good health. Shiatsu uses quiet, relaxed pressure at various points on the body to produce tremendous energetic effects. Unlike the other forms of massage therapy, which are usually performed on a massage table with the client undressed and covered with a drape, shiatsu is often done on the floor with the client fully clothed.
